| MUSICSERVER.CZ Tomas Tenkrat 3/7/2006 A summer in France, in the form of a CD Chrudim's Miou Miou recorded their debut album „La La Grande Final“. It's an album which by no means lacks strong moments, moments that will certainly not bore you. This is intelligent pop, which captivates you and wants to spend the summer with you. I was rather looking forward to the debut of the Chrudim band, Miou Miou. I had the honor of one concert with them, and their French pop with its multiple offshoots into different genres impressed me. Of course, the new album is even better than I expected. „La La Grande Finale“, is a sunny summer day in the form of a compact disc. Just listening to it, the record cultivates a good mood. I haven't found one weak composition on it, not one which bored me. Karolina Dytrtova's singing in French gives necessary flair and a touch of sunny light-heartedness to the pro-arranged music, based on guitar and the sound of the German (now legendary) piano Vermona. I can't manage to judge how credible Karolina's singing is – I don't know French, though I do know that her voice is pure as an alpine stream. Natural, unforced. I am rather curious as to how they manage with this repertoire live. For example the introductory song "A L'été De La Saint-Martin '68" is peppered with the Celtic harp, but also even more resoundingly with whistles, strings or trumpets. Miou Miou truly wins with this debut, nearly every song has a guest artist and is fitted out with something to make it original. The wonderfully foot-tapping „La Chambre Voisine“ could be another hit single. It's a song with a beautiful, catchy melody and pleasant guitar ambience – and once again that French singing makes it stand out as remarkable. Miou Miou wrings the maximum out of their instruments, they are entertaining, and their music directly inspires rolling in the grass, closing your eyes and dreaming of indian summer at sunset. They've got ideas, they play with music, they are not afraid of either alternative or indie pop. They managed to mix a tightly-packed record, which works as a whole and includes the type moments when you find yourself thinking that music is stroking you. If you enjoy clever pop and don't shrink from the experimental, this album is for you. Music from a rock in the middle of the Seine. Translation: Maggie Skodon :::::::::::::::::::: |
