| INDIEPAGES.COM 09/04/2007 MIOU MIOU - LA LA GRANDE FINALE (Piper) Probably one of the first bands from Prague to come across my desk, this debut album from Miou Miou is both a visual and audio delight! Imagine the whimsy of the first Cardigans record coupled with a much thicker production style, but sung in French, and you'd be pretty close. There are about as many light and catchy pop songs like "Á L´été De La Saint-Martin" and "La Chambre Voisine" as there are dreamier ones like "Sublime" and "Summe Volume", though almost all of them use a variety of keyboards and percussion to achieve their respective moods. At times, I'm reminded a bit of Stereolab in both the songwriting and production ...and the soft French vocals, of course. As I mentioned, the cd design is also delightful, with both the digipak and full-color booklet adorned with attractive drawings throughout, along with lyrics printed in French and Czech. An all-around excellent package that shows how well art can complement music and vice-versa. www.indiepages.com
