| FILTER Radek Bures 5/9/2006 MIOU MIOU MM call their own music „pop expérimentale,“ and that describes just about everything. The band is intellectual pop, they are alternative hitmakers and musicians with a refined sensibility for aesthetics. „During the first few rehearsals, we discovered the things all of us enjoy. Repetition, working with unfinished suggestions, the contrast of quiet with sound/noise or the specific positive relationship to what people consider kitsch and junk“, explains pianist Jara Tarnovski. That was in 2003, and from that point up to now, they've completed quite a lot of projects, including a minialbum „6 Chants Pour Les Chats“ and their first full-length album „La La Grande Finale“ which came out this year in the spring on the label Piper Records. Ondrej Jezek did the mixing on the album; the group recorded it at Pardubice's Divadlo 29 („Theatre 29“); it surprises us with an excellent and very colorful sound (sound quality), to which contributed not only the band members but also a truly large number of guest musicians. „We knew in advance what kind of instruments we wanted to use on the album, and with that in mind, we started speaking to potential guest artists. We wrote the parts for strings and winds down to the note, but the composition Le Chaos for example came about because we let each newcomer improvise for a while - and that included the cricket - the only one who invited himself to play on the record,“ says Jara. Miou Miou named themselves after a popular French actress, but the name simultaneously provides homage to the world of cats. In French it means nothing more than „meow, meow.“ And it is a fact, that real cats inherently belong to this group. „A cat's deliberation fascinates me - the contrast of “zen” meditation with wild animality“, explains Jara. „It fascinates me how hidden underneath their soft little kitten paws, are sharp claws“.
